I saw this question on Quora.
Here is my answer
Denmark is overrated in a lot of areas but the authorities and the tourist industry sell Denmark very well.
- Racial hygiene. Try having a child with a mental illness. Free hospital access is not guaranteed. Often the social services fight the hospitals and set aside diagnoses. If a group home is needed for depression or other types of mental illnesses, the parents can get invoiced. There is a reason that they offer foster scans so embryos with signs of handicapped can be removed before the child is born. The laws are still based on ideas from before WWII.
- Ordinary Danes cannot afford living in the cities. There is no legislation against short term rentals so there are apartments that are both empty a lot of time and used for rental purposes only which force the pricing up.
- Public transport is a joke. It is among the highest in the world in a country who tends to market themselves as environment friendly.
- Try to talk to people from the eastern part of Greenland. Danes have their idea on how people from Greenland live and especially drink alcohol. They have put a puppet government located in Nuuk who gives next to nothing to the people on the eastern side of the island.
- It is a bureaucratic country which basically has 99 small kingdoms who hate the government in Copenhagen unless they can get money from the state. Those 99 small kingdoms are the main reason that Denmark has high taxes.
- On the good side, teenagers can legally purchase alcohol at an early age and drink to forget how awful daily life is. Then if they are asked in a drunken state, they are happy.
